Expecting the Expected

23 Nov

So given my food follies, and fatty food fall outs, I’m not too shocked there isn’t much to report this week! 🙂 But I’m not as disappointed as I thought. Again, the trick will be to maintain or even lose over this weekend (fingers crossed, lips sealed!)

Stomach 37 1/4"

Hips 47 1/2"

Thighs 25 1/2"

So I gained a bit on my tummy, lost 1/4″ on my hips, and almost an inch off my thighs. Not too flabby if I say so myself. I know I need to increase my water intake, so I vow to my blog that I’ll try that this week and we’ll see how that goes. I really want to thank everyone who stops by to show support. I appreciate all your kinds words and advice, and definitely am glad you guys are on my team! This is my journey, but since I’ve made it Public, I know it’s the best decision I could’ve made!

But I went ahead and jogged tonight instead of going to the gym. ..Then I was quickly reminded why I need to be in a closed room to exercise. As much as I HATE the gym (I’m ADHD, so I get bored veryyy easily) it sure beats going for a run and sneezing the whole night through! I’ll be back up at the gym tomorrow. But what are some things you guys have done to beat the bored at the gym blues??? It’s only been about a month for me for goodness sakes! How am I going to make it the rest of my life?? lol

Thanks Public!

A good way to beat gym boredom, especially on the cardio machines is to do various types of intervals. If you stay at the same speed for the entire duration, you A. don’t burn as many calories B. the minutes drag on FOREVER.

So doing intervals kills 2 birds with one stone. 🙂 Whether you’re on the elliptical, treadmill or stairs, do some combinations of changing your levels/speed. For example on the treadmill, walk at 3.5 mph for 2 minutes, then run at 5.8 mph for 3 minutes and go back and forth with that. Then you’re only focusing on small minute increments as opposed to facing 30 minutes of running, etc.

Another one is the pyramid. This can be done on any of the machines I said. These are just example levels, you do what is good for your current level of fitness. Start out on level 3 on the elliptical for 1 minute, then do 2 minutes on level 5, then do 3 minutes on level 7, then do 2 minutes on 5 again and 1 minute on 3. Keep repeating the cycle.

You burn far more calories doing interval training and it gets you in overall better shape, better endurance. Plus it makes the time go by quickly. Good luck!!!

My gym beat the boredom technique is always music. I load my iPod with the best music I can find, then set it to shuffle. I get an extra kick of energy when I hear “my song” (which happens almost every song :D).

I am at a gym now where they have classes included in your membership, which definitely helps relieve the boredom.

If I’m on the treadmill or elliptical, I sometimes twitter, too 😀

Hey thanks for checking out my blog. I’m looking over yours right now. I’m here to support you also so you can add me to the list of supporters 😀

It’s funny that you are bored of the gym. I’m the opposite. I used to only go running outside so now that bores me. The gym is new and exciting to me! lol Wonder how long this will last for… hehe

Thanks for all your support! Those are all great ideas. I went this evening to a kickboxing class. AMAZing! I’ll definitely sprinkle those into my workout for some variety. Good idea on the interval thing. That will help a ton, because I do 25 minutes on the elliptical with the fat burn program, keeping at my “recommended heart rate” of 125…so that’s slooow. The machine even cut off a few times, I guess it thought I wasn’t even on there anymore!

I used to LOVE to run! But I went for a jog last night and my knees were not agreeing! My mother has really bad knee problems, so that scared me a lot. I’ll lay off the jogging for now and do other things.

LOL @ twitter on the machines!!
